Resources for Alumni Volunteers

Game Watch Update

We are so excited for our football student-athletes to have the opportunity to compete this fall.  As you know, Big Ten stadiums will not permit fans in the stands and many of our Big Ten peer institutions are virtual only at least through the end of the year for their alumni groups.

The Alumni Association in cooperation with the University will not support any in-person football game watch events, which includes marketing, swag, and reimbursements.  We want to ensure the student-athletes and our communities stay safe and healthy, and by cheering on the Buckeyes at home, we can all do our part.

We did want to provide you with alternative activities to keep your members engaged with your alumni group and Ohio State.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Encourage your members to order carry-out or delivery from your host venue to continue to support your local businesses.
    • Use this statement to post to your social media and your website.
      • While we are not hosting official game watch parties this season, VENUE NAME HERE will be featuring the Buckeyes starting on October 24. If you are in the neighborhood, please consider supporting this local business by ordering carry-out or delivery.
  • Participate in the #OSUHomegating Challenge the week of THE GAME.  Details forthcoming.
  • Encourage all alums and fans to post #OSUHomegating pictures each week
    • Show us your delicious snacks and treats in the comfort of your kitchen/living room/Buckeye Room!
    • Show us your sweet set up in the backyard or garage or living room
  • Engage alumni via social media during the game with the following themes:
    • Best dressed Buckeye Pet
    • Most spirited Buckeye Room
    • Best tailgate display in your home
      • You can select a winner for each contest and OSUAA will send a swag item the following week.  (Please provide your REO or Liaison with their name and address)
  • Promote the “Ryan Day Show” every Thursday at noon via the Ohio State Athletics APP.

Please watch this message from Ohio State Athletics Director Gene Smith.

We will provide each club with the Text to Donate verbiage as a fundraising alternative so you can push through social media during the games. Visit this webpage to learn more about the Text to Donate opportunity.

Virtual webinar support will be available in limited capacity on game days for webinars prior to kick-off and at halftime.

Remember, the game watch requirement has been dropped for FY21 regarding Scarlet or Gray status.

The Game Day Location link on the OSUAA website and APP has updated language for this season to discourage large group gatherings due to COVID-19.

If you choose to host an in-person event with a vendor, be sure to reach out to your local officials to ensure you are in compliance with local safety and health regulations.
