Bowl Bound Buckeyes: Cotton Bowl Recap

In December, Buckeyes from across the nation headed to Dallas, Texas to support the football team take on the USC Trojans. Returning with a victory in a tow, the trip was full of great memories for the Ohio State faithful.

On the morning of Dec. 28, the Office of Volunteer Relations and Student Life hosted a community service event at Goodwill Dallas, a site servicing 17 goodwill city locations. More than 250 Ohio State alumni, students, staff, and faculty came together with USC alumni to learn about and volunteer with Goodwill employees by sorting and moving goods in the facility.

Later that day, 2,000 folks came together for the “Buckeye Bash” at Gilley’s Dallas. Attendees enjoyed rousing speeches by Jim Smith and Gene Smith, a performance by TBDBITL, food, drinks and a wide variety of entertainment options (including armadillo races and giant jenga).

Following the bash, hundreds of alumni headed to The Dallas/FW Alumni Club event, “Rally at the Rustic.” At this event, alumni and fans enjoyed specialty drinks, delicious food and free live entertainment by local artists, including former Ohio State football player Mekka Don.

On Dec. 29, Buckeyes gathered at the “Pre-Game Huddle on the Road” to enjoy free food, an open bar, a live performance by TBDBITL, Brutus and the spirit squad before watching Ohio State defeat the Trojans, 24-7.

The Dallas/FW Alumni Club hosted three events to welcome Buckeyes to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl. A pair of meet-and-greets were held in both Dallas and Fort Worth on the evening of Dec. 29 that welcomed scarlet and gray supporters to the area. The club also planned and executed the previously mentioned “Rally at The Rustic.” At these events, alumni and fan volunteers sold Buckeye necklaces, raffled off a signed Archie Griffin football and raised nearly $4,000 for the club’s scholarship fund.
